Kanye West and Jay-Z’s song from the Watch The Throne Album titled Murder to Excellence is a tribute to Danroy ‘D.J.’ Henry. A college student who was killed by a crazed NY police officer who jumped in front of Henry’s car shot him dead then called it self defense. The officer involved basically pulled a George Zimmerman where he put himself in a situation to justify killing someone. The song brought major attention to the problem of violence on our streets.
from Murder to Excellence Kanye West, ”
…It’s a war going on outside we ain’t safe from
I feel the pain in my city wherever I go
314 soldiers died in Iraq, 509 died in Chicago”
When I first heard this song I found it hard to believe that so many people had been killed in Chicago. I couldn’t understand how that could be possible.
I remembered that Barack had endorsed his ex White House chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel to run for the Mayor’s Office so everything should be peachy in Chicago right? Wrong, it’s worst than Iraq in CHICAGO just like Kanye Said.
How bad is it in Chicago? Well lets just say it has got so bad that Louis Farrakahn has stepped up to answer the call. The so called “controversial” minister has responded to the continual growing violence in the city by getting directly involved in the community.
The minister has deployed volunteers in his organization to walk the streets in solidarity with the citizens who feel as though they are living in a war zone. The organization of men named the Fruit of Islam have responded to the insane crime happening in their community by leading from the front.
In the past two weeks the men dressed in three piece suits with bow-ties have continued their activity in the areas hit hardest by insane violence and crime. Mayor Rahm Emmanuel says he welcomes the help.
My question is if the people are left to defend themselves after all of the billions of tax payer dollars have been spent what is the point? Did you see the amazing amount of “force” deployed in Chicago for the recent NATO meeting? How is it possible that all this money exists to keep non Americans safe but it cannot be used to keep residents safe? They don’t mind harassing protesters with this stuff though.
Maybe citizen safety is not the intention? Maybe this is just another example of how important individual self defense really is. What do you think? Will the government keep you safe or are you on your own?
